Eureka Network This project, named FREEDOM: The first #exoskeleton specifically adapted for multiple sclerosis, aims to enhance our ABLE Exoskeleton to meet the specific needs of individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). In collaboration with two pioneering clinics, Hobbs Rehabilitation in the UK and tech2people in Austria, we are ready to embark on this innovative initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Do We Want to Do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project will develop the first robotic exoskeleton specifically designed to meet the needs of MS patients receiving rehabilitation treatment, the FREEDOM Exoskeleton. Throughout the project, we will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Evaluate the specific clinical needs of the MS patient population.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Build an innovative robotic exoskeleton that addresses these needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Test the exoskeleton in a clinical environment with MS patients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collect data to drive optimised treatment plans for MS patients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This will be achieved through clinical co-creation and partnership between engineers (ABLE Human Motion, tech2people), clinicians (Hobbs Rehabilitation, tech2people), and people with MS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Do We Want to Do It?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1488\" height=\"837\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ablehumanmotion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1721205751900.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42012\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ablehumanmotion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1721205751900.png 1488w, https:\/\/www.ablehumanmotion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1721205751900-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ablehumanmotion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1721205751900-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.ablehumanmotion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1721205751900-768x432.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1488px) 100vw, 1488px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robotic overground gait training can improve mobility, cognition, brain connectivity, and quality of life in people with MS. However, there are currently no exoskeletons on the market specifically designed to meet the unique needs of MS patients, such as the relapsing-remitting disease course, increased muscle spasticity, and cognitive deterioration. With the prevalence rates of MS growing in recent years, we see a tremendous potential to improve the quality of care and clinical treatment for MS patients by creating an innovative robotic exoskeleton device tailored to their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Complementary Consortium<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The consortium for this project brings together unique expertise that increases the likelihood of success. The interdisciplinary approach of working with leading clinics like Hobbs Rehabilitation and tech2people ensures that real clinical needs are addressed. ABLE Human Motion contributes its experience in design, development, and manufacturing of exoskeletons. Hobbs Rehabilitation will leverage their ability to engage collaborators and key stakeholders through their unique program for clinical training, ensuring the successful implementation of the FREEDOM Exoskeleton into clinical practice.
